Which Mask is the Best
Masks are medical protective equipment that everyone wears every day. Wearing masks can effectively protect against viruses. However, there are many masks on the market. Which mask has a good protective effect? Today this article will mainly compare the two most popular masks, KF94 and N95.
KF94 VS N95
- Standard definition
Comparison: KF94 and N95 have different standards. The US data comes from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and the Korean data refers to its Food and Drug Administration.
The N95 mask refers to the American standard, which means that the mask can filter more than 95% of non-oily particles with a diameter of 0.3μm.
KF94 refers to the Korean standard, which means that the filtering rate of the mask for particles with an average diameter of 0.4μm is greater than 94%
KF94 mask can filter out at least 94% of particles with a diameter of 0.4μm, and both oily and non-oily particles can reach the same level. Its anti-splashing ability and bacterial filtering ability are not required.
N95 masks can filter out at least 95% of particles with a diameter of 0.075μm, only non-oily particles. Its anti-splashing ability and bacterial filtering ability are also not required.
N95 masks have better fit and tightness than KF94 masks, but civilian N95 focuses more on protecting pollen and smog particles.
Which Mask Has a Good Protective Effect?
Masks with good protective effects must have the following aspects.
1️⃣Good facial tightness
Air can directly enter the mask with gaps from the gaps without filtering materials, which seriously reduces the protective effect. Air leakage can also cause fogging of glasses or goggles. The leak rate of the best masks is less than 1.5%.
2️⃣ High filtration efficiency of the filter material
The higher the filtration efficiency, the higher the interception rate of the filter material, such as KN90, KN95, KN100 masks. Gauze masks, ordinary medical masks, and medical-surgical masks all have low requirements for particulate filtration efficiency.
3️⃣ Low inhalation resistance
The higher the inhalation resistance of the mask, the harder you inhale. Masks with high inhalation resistance cannot continue to protect. The KN95 mask has the lowest inhalation resistance, and its inhalation resistance is less than 50 Pa.
4️⃣ Good airtightness of the exhalation valve
If you want to choose a mask with an exhalation valve, you'd better choose a breathing valve mask with good airtightness. If the airtightness of the exhalation valve is not good, it cannot effectively isolate external particles, especially poisonous gas.
Finally, masks must have a third-party professional organization test report. If the mask manufacturer does not have a test report, please do not buy it.
How to Store and Clean Masks?
I believe that through the above content, you already know which mask has a good protective effect. However, when the epidemic is severe and masks are scarce, how should we store and clean masks?
The storage and cleaning methods of different types of masks are also different.
Generally, medical masks must be replaced after 4 hours of use and cannot be used again. But if you don’t come into contact with other people while wearing a medical mask, you can put the mask in a ventilated, dry place, or put it in a clean, breathable paper bag for reuse.
When placing the mask, it is best to store it separately to prevent others from taking it by mistake and causing the risk of cross-infection.
After using the medical-surgical mask, you cannot use disinfectant or alcohol to disinfect the mask. You need to put it in a bag or trash can that specializes in handling medical masks.
For KN95 or N95 masks with breathing valves, as long as the frequency of use is not high, they can be used repeatedly. However, if the inside of the mask has been wet, you can no longer use it. Please refer to the instructions for use.
For cotton masks, you can clean and disinfect them. It is recommended to use ultraviolet light for disinfection and sterilization of cotton gauze masks.
